Styles
Choosing a wig is similar to selecting clothes in many ways. Begin by asking yourself "Is the style for work, special events, or for casual wear?" There are different styles for professional, social, casual, & formail occasions.

Longer styles offer a more youthful feel, while
shorter styles traditionally are more conservative. Today, you can find everything from mild to wild at every length. Like clothes, the colors & accessories you wear say just as much as your wig, so even, for example, a tapered mid length bob can be professional at the office and edgy for a night on the town.

Colors
One of the best things about wigs are the vast selections of colors available. Match your own hair color or do something new - but be aware that extremely light, dark, or intensely red colors can be difficult to match to all skin/hair color combinations.

Generally your eyebrow color is the standard to begin with. For a natural look you will not want to stray too far from that color. For customers with total hair loss, brow color no longer is signifigant, meaning a much wider palette of colors can offer a realistic appearance! If you are undecided about color, you can get ideas from any of our manufacturers' color rings. Keep in mind that this doesn't represent every single color uniformly because each manufacturer creates unique color blending.

We rent synthetic color rings for $20 & human hair color rings for $30, which will be credited toward any purchase of a wig or hair piece when you return it. You can also send your own color samples to us for a perfect match. Still, it's not unusual for a person with dark skin to choose platinum blond or for someone with fair skin to choose red or charcoal black! This is, after all, the era of color freedom!

Size
Wigs come in four sizes:
Large 22" - 24"
Average 20" - 22"
Petite 19" - 21"
Extra Petite (Children). . .18" - 19"

All wigs have size adjustable bands or Velcro for 1" to 3" adjustments. Find your size by measuring around your head behind your ears. You can modify your own wig by removing areas from the ear, the nape or the hairline.
We will be happy to answer any questions on customizing your wig.

On Receipt
On Receipt of the wig, check only for size and color. Do not comb or style the wig, just loosen by shaking and/or finger combing.

Care
Synthetic Wigs:

  • Do not expose synthetic wigs to extreme heat! Heat from cooking, steam, blow dryers, and curling irons can & will melt the hair fiber.
  • Generally, washing once a month is sufficient. To wash your wig, do not rub as you would human hair. Instead, simply shake in a mild shampoo solution, rinse, and use lots of conditioner. Let the wig hang to dry.
  • Synthetic wigs are pre-styled. It is never a good idea to brush a synthetic wig. To style, use these techniques:
    • For curly styles, simply grab the wig cap from the nape area and shake for a few seconds. This will set the curls free. You can use a pick to separate sections or tame wild hairs, but it is best not to pull too hard or push hair against it's natural direction.
    • For straight styles, just run your fingers gently over the hair to smooth stray hairs. If necessary, gently comb with a pick only.

Human Hair:

  • Depending on the quality of your hair, it may be more or less sensitive to factors such as heat, brushing, coloring, and other elements. Remy human hair is of the highest quality and can be treated very similar to natural hair. Other human hair is more sensitive and does not last as long.
  • Human Hair can be brushed, curled, permed & colored (although we highly recommend coloring & perming only on Remy hair). It is best to have coloring and perming performed by a professional stylist.
  • To wash, high quality moisturizing shampoo & conditioner are recommeded. Typically, washing once a week is more than enough. High heat situations or heavy persperation are enough cause for more frequent washings. To achieve smooth styling after washing, blow dry the wig on medium heat. Use fingers, rather than a brush, to smooth hair while drying.
  • With proper care, a human hair wig can last a year or more.
  • Despite its ability to withstand heat, human hair will loose vitality from excessive amounts of heat. Avoid it when possible.
  • Many customers recolor their Remy Human Hair wigs after 3-6 months to regain the original luster and shine. Like all human hair, even Remy hair loses some of its original color after multiple washings.
